One of the many things that people appreciate about Social Buddies is that it has a strong arts and culture strand amongst its events. We always try to include at least one visit to view art each month, as well as attending theatre and music events.

As a supporter of the arts, Social Buddies aims to feature a changing selection of art work by a local artist on this page every week. All of this work is for sale.

GEOFF FRANCIS:
PHOTOGRAPHER/ARTIST/ WRITER/FILMMAKER

Geoff is an expressionist artist, with work ranging from abstract to figurative. He has been shortlisted for the 2012 Saatchi Abstract Showdown, for his painting 'Imagine No John Lennon', just one of 300 chosen from the 3300 original entries.

Geoff is also a photographer of chance moments, helping us adjust the way we look at and see our world. Even for his abstract works, he rarely adjusts what the moment has given. Nature, and the variety of life we share the planet with, are his favourite subjects.

The Secret Art Collector

Geoff is delighted at the enthusiastic thumbs up from Norwich's Secret Art Collector who has decided to represent some of Geoff's work. In his words:

'Welcome to the fascinating world of Expressionist artist, Geoff Francis. Having met Geoff and his business partner Jacky, recently, at a one day exhibition in Norwich, I had to get some of his paintings and prints into Secret Art Collector's Picture Gallery of emerging talented artists.

'Geoff is an enigma: he is a gifted artist; publisher: get a copy of 'The Pleasure of Women' when it publishes soon [...for which Geoff provided poems and the cover art...]; photographer; film maker; past entrepreneur who has given so much to animal charities and sanctuaries; and fascinating raconteur. He's just great fun to be with and passionate about his work.'

From March 2012, the entire restaurant space at the celebrated Tatlers Restaurant in Tombland, Norwich, is host to a permanent rolling exhibition of around 35-40 of Geoff’s abstract expressionist paintings and atmospheric photos.

“A Canadian artist friend likes to refer to my abstract work as colour moods,” says Geoff. “Working together with Tatlers’ proprietors Chris and Natasha Williams, my intention is to create a comfortable ambiance throughout the two floors of this lovely building. The bar and eating areas are home to my abstract paintings and the stairwell will be populated with atmospheric photographs from nature.”

Art for Animals

Saturday 5^th May 11-3pm
